A Lifetime Behind the Lens and in the Lab
Photography has been a part of my life for more than 40 years. What began as a passion grew into a career built around the craft of photography, film processing, printing, scanning, and preserving photographs.
More Than 40 Years Behind the Camera
Long before I became a photo processing lab technician, I was and still am a photographer.
My photographic journey began with 35mm cameras from Minolta, Ricoh, Fuji, Canon, and Nikon, learning the fundamentals of exposure, composition, lenses, and the discipline required to create a great photograph on film. As my experience grew, so did my equipment and my approach to photography. I eventually moved into medium-format photography with the Hasselblad 500C/M and Mamiya RZ67 Pro II, cameras that further shaped my appreciation for detail, image quality, and the craft of making photographs.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a wide variety of subjects and people, including:
- Weddings and special events
- Family and portrait photography
- High school seniors
- Sports and action
- Proms and formal events
- Commercial photography
- Executive and corporate portraits
- Product photography
I’ve also worked extensively with natural light, studio lighting, and creative lighting, adapting my approach to the subject, environment, and vision of the client.
That experience has given me a perspective that goes beyond simply processing a roll of film. I understand what happens before the shutter is pressed, when the film is processed, and when the final image is printed or scanned.
From Photographer to also a Photo Lab Technician
For more than 30 years, I had the privilege of working at a photography studio where I developed my skills and built my career around the photographic process. It was more than just a job—it was a place where I spent decades working with photographers, families, and their photographs and where I learned to appreciate the care and attention that goes into preserving an image.
I found myself at a crossroads when the photography studio, which also had its own processing lab that I managed, made the difficult decision to close its doors. After more than three decades dedicated to the craft, I wasn’t ready to walk away from photography.
Instead, I decided to take everything I had learned over the years and build something of my own.
That’s how JP Film Lab & Photography was born.
My goal is to provide the same level of personal care and attention to detail that I have always believed photographs deserve. I work with color film, photographic prints, negatives, and slides, offering developing, printing, restoration, and scanning services designed to help preserve your photographs for years to come.
Whether you’re sending in a roll from your latest photo walk, rediscovering negatives from years ago, or looking to preserve family photographs by bringing them into the digital world, I treat every image with the care it deserves.
JP Film Lab & Photography is intentionally small and personal. There are no production lines or impersonal drop-offs—just decades of hands-on experience, a genuine love of photography, and a commitment to doing the job right.
After 40 years in the photographic industry, I’m excited to continue doing what I’ve always loved—helping people preserve the photographs and memories that matter.

A little more about my Hobbies and Passions:
My love of motorcycle riding whenever time allows. To me there is nothing more relaxing than spending the day on the bike, stopping for a bite to eat or a coffee.
Collecting vinyl albums. After many years on hiatus from collecting, I have jumped back into my love of vinyl records(thanks Todd!). After a long day of riding, getting the grill going and putting on a classic album is just a perfect day to me.
I love spending time with family and friends, I have been blessed with so many wonderful people in my life!
